Junior Committee vacancies – volunteer from 1hr week

Junior Committee vacancies – volunteer from 1hr week

Simon Ransley7 Jul - 08:56

More volunteers = a more manageable workload

As you may know, Marc Earnshaw our Junior Chair for the past two seasons has stepped down – we want to thank Marc for his huge contribution.

Marc worked incredibly hard and we now need to spread this load by recruiting for the vacancies below.

A few things to note:

• You don’t need hockey knowledge to volunteer

• We need good organisers, spreadsheet experts and problem-solvers

• You can do as little or as much as you like – an hour a week would be amazing

• Attending the monthly Junior Committee Meeting is optional

• Most importantly, if we don’t fill these roles, it means we’re stuck with too few people, doing too much work (and dropping out!)

So the roles we need to fill are:

Junior Chair
This is the most URGENT role to fill. We want to reduce the level of commitment for this role so that the Chair can focus on the bigger picture, representing the Junior section in the wider club and working with the committee members to take key decisions.

Secretary (1hr week)
We need a good organiser to manage the Junior section’s administration and support the work of the club chair by managing meetings and correspondence.

Fixtures secretary (2hrs week early season > 1hr a week later in the season)
Liaise with the leagues and competitions to enter teams, updating this over the season for cups, ensuring the right teams have pitches allocated.

Junior umpire coordinator (1hr week)
Oversee our cohort of umpires and ensure we have sufficient umpires for each home fixture. Help us grow our pool of umpires and coordinate training opportunities.

Volunteer coordinator (1hr week)
Help us recruit and coordinate Young Leaders, junior team managers/organisers and parents for supporting the junior section – and oversee the kids’ Duke of Edinburgh requirements.

Performance coordinator (1hr week + 1 monthly meeting)
Liaise with the Director of Coaching to oversee the development of junior talent (IDP programme) and communicate with England Hockey on the requirements for maintaining Talent Centre status.

Pitchero & WhatsApp group managers (1hr week)

Keep our membership up to date on these two platforms, manage messaging about fixtures, events and changes to schedules.

Outreach coordinator (2hrs week early season)
Promote our ‘4 weeks free hockey’ offer in the early season and work with coaches to run the scholarship programme. Help us develop our wider outreach activities with schools and community.

Team managers – current vacancies including U16 girls and U16 boys.
The role involves liaising with the coach and parents about training and fixtures, supporting on match days and generally nagging people about updating Pitchero for availability.

The GOOD NEWS is we already have the following roles filled for the 24/5 season

Treasurer (Lucy Otter)

Welfare Officer (Paul Campbell)

Head of Operations (Jay Heathcote)

Deputy Chair (Simon Ransley

Comms manager (Simon Ransley)

How to get involved:

Email the Junior Committee to express your interest or ask any questions. We really do mean it when we say you can do as little as you like – 1 hour a week would be a massive help.

Thank you!
