About Wakefield Hockey Club

Wakefield Hockey Club (WHC) was founded in 1899, and is one of the premier hockey clubs in the North of England and country. Based in West Yorkshire, our inclusive hockey club is close to major cities such as Leeds and Sheffield and is easy to reach by car, train and bus. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be from Wakefield to join!

Wakefield HC has six men’s teams, five ladies' teams, a thriving junior section (with over 400 members and 20 junior teams) and a Flyerz section for players with intellectual disabilities giving everyone the opportunity to play and enjoy hockey. We have two Olympic standard water based astro-turf pitches and excellent off-pitch changing and clubhouse facilities.

We have a history of producing international players ranging from U16 to National and Master's squads, along with many other representatives competing for their county and region. The club is one of only 33 sites in the UK to be classed as a Talent Centre by England Hockey, and has played host to a variety of England Hockey county, regional, national tournaments and international matches.

Both of our Men's & Ladies' 1st XI teams enjoy a high profile, and play in the England Hockey National Leagues. With all our other teams playing in different leagues across the North and Yorkshire, we have a team to match every ability! There is no age limit with our teams, we welcome all ages from juniors through to masters level players.

While we do host Summer Splash (our main hockey tournament in the year that welcomes clubs from all over to take part) it’s not all about the hockey. We have regular social events throughout the year, open to all members, finishing with Presentation Evening once the season has finished. Through the summer, we offer regular social hockey events such as our Mega Mixes and summer leagues.

Our aim is to include and welcome everyone into Wakefield Hockey Club whether you are giving it a go for the first time, or a seasoned player. For more information please feel free to get in touch or look at our FAQ section. We are happy to help and answer any questions you may have.
