Wakefield’s U14s North Success

Wakefield’s U14s North Success

Wakefield’s U14 Girls had a great tournament and played some fantastic hockey during England Hockey’s North Round last Sunday.  Starting positively against Deeside Ramblers the green army secured a 1-0 win.  The next game vs Beeston was a little tougher, especially given all but 5 of the 16 squad are U13.  It led to a 0-2 loss despite excellent defending, with Wakefield guilty of a few wasted chances.  However, it was the final 10 minutes of the final game where the sporting heartache took place with Wakefield 1-0 ahead vs Alderley Edge and heading to the U14 National Finals at Lee Valley only for Beeston to score 2 goals in 2 minutes to leave Wakefield second in the table and out of the cup.  A great days hockey, with sunshine and hospitality – and a real credit to the hockey players, the organising committee and the catering crew with all visiting teams now coming back for a friendly tournament in September.  This is hockey at Wakefield.
