Wakefield’s U18, U16 and U14 girls performance squads were all in action on a hectic Sunday – scoring 22 goals between them, conceding 2 and winning all their games.
The U14 Girls followed up their Yorkshire Cup win last weekend to excel in their latest outing of Division 1 Yorkshire Youth League, beating Sheffield 2-1, York 2-0 and Doncaster 5-1. Not to be outdone, the U18 Girls commenced their round of the EH Cup at College with a comfortable 6-0 win against a competitive Huddersfield outfit. However, the performance of the day this week is for the U16 Girls at Ben Rhydding in the Yorkshire Round of the EH Cup. Starting against a strong Ben Rhydding outfit they conceded ground in the first half but maintained discipline and shape to restrict the home team to few chances. Wakefield took full advantage of this, attacking via quick ball through the midfield and scored two excellent set piece short corners. Expecting drag flicks the Ben Rhydding defence were left wondering as the corner became a drilled ball to the far post with two key deflections to score twice. Wakefield eventually ran out 3-0 winners and moved to face a high performing Harrogate team who had beaten a Doncaster team on sudden death strokes, having come from two goals down. The girls were in high confidence at this point and dominated the EH Cup Yorkshire Final to run out 4-0 eventual winners and will represent Yorkshire in the northern round. Well done to all the girls at Wakefield – a good Sunday!
