Wakefield U16 Girls travelled to Cheshire for the EH Cup North Finals, with a place in the National Finals at stake. The first game vs Beeston was a key game and Wakefield proved a match for their star England forward. They restricted the Nottingham team to few clear chances securing a 1-1 draw, despite losing an early goal. The following game vs Bowden allowed Wakefield to show their class. The girls moved the ball at speed to open up spaces in the Bowden defence to seal a 4-0 win. Group results led to Wakefield starting the final group game under pressure, needing to win 5-0 vs Alderley Edge to match Beeston’s goals scored. The rush for goals led to gaps in defence and an Alderley break allowed the Cheshire team to score first. Wakefield returned to score but couldn’t meet the goal-fest required and finished runners up. A really impressive outing for Wakefield’s green army and the girls can be proud of their achievements, as shown by the celebrations by Alderley Edge’s at the final whistle even though they finished lower in the table!
